Dear Mrs. Goines,
As a freshman this year many different views on our lunch breaks have come to my attention and I think it would be better if we made the lunch breaks longer. I think that there are many pros and cons such as if we did this there would be less time for school work and students could become lazier and fall asleep in class. Teachers would have a lot of down time this could be a con but then again not so much because with the longer breaks teachers could run errands; such as if they have kids or need to pick up something for a class or something they forgot at home. If kids needed to see teachers they could take care of it at lunch also teachers would have more time to grade allowing them to be able to spend time with their families not grading papers at school on Fridays. Students would really like this because we live in such a rural area many of us would have time to drive home and get lunch if we lived out in the country or we could eat somewhere else outside of Las Animas. Students in sports could do homework during the day allowing them the time and chance to stay caught up in school. Also if we had longer lunch breaks the middle school would have more time to eat which from what I have heard from many of them they would enjoy. Also the many kids in the high school play sports in the gym with longer breaks we could play more which we would enjoy. I propose that we get longer breaks for lunch.
Sincerely yours,
Cheyanna Fritz
good job but i think that the break is long enough because if youve ever set through detention for an hour it gets really boring
ReplyDeletei really liked your word choice but i noticed you said something alot. i also very much agree with you that we should have longer lunch breaks.
ReplyDeletei agree on the kids living in the country because some of us kids that have animals that need to be feed and watrer more than twice a day we will have time to go feed them and water them. the bright side of being able to go to our house in the country and not worry about being fifteen or twenty minutes late. we would definetly have less tardies so thats good but one thing you are missing is the fact students can take advantage of the extra time and mess around and still be late for class. with all the extra time there could be more fights happening then they do now. i think we should try it and see how well it works and if it dont work then go back to how it was to start.
ReplyDeleteI agree but the only problem is that we still wouldn't have enough time to drive all the way to La Junta just to eat if that was the case the break would have to be about an hour and a half long just to sit down and eat. Another thing I would also say that students might pay attention more because they could deal with more of their business outside of the classroom. Another this is would we have to lenghten the day to going until 4:30 or 4:15 because if that is the case I don't think the elementary kids could stand being cooped up for so long and of course you can't change the bus schedule so another thing to think about.
ReplyDeletebut it wouldnt have to make the day longer we could take time out of advisiory face it its not like we even do anything in that place just mess around.detention wouldnt have to be that long we could change detention to half the time and the rest be for lunch or have 2 days ofr lunch detention not 4.
ReplyDeleteCheyanna,
ReplyDeleteYour organization needs a little bit of work. In the letter you provide, you use one paragraph, whereas you should have three: intro perhaps starting with an anecdote, argument, benefits; Second paragraph with disadvantages and you'll flip these to make them work for your benefit; and conclusion where you restate your argument, summarize main ideasm, and thank them for their time.
Secondly, make sure your format is on par. Any mistake takes away from your ethos.
Lastly, look at all comments for strength to your argument. You have good comments to a good first draft.
Look forward to reading the final!
Mr. Armstrong
